How To Make Lip Balm With Beeswax: Instructions

Step 1: Melt the Beeswax Pellets

Start by melting the beeswax pellets in a double boiler.  If you don’t have a double boiler, you can use a small pot on low heat instead.

Alternatively, you can melt the beeswax in the microwave.  Just be sure to heat it in short bursts and frequently stir not to burn.

Simply place some water on the lower pan, and place the beeswax pellets in the upper pan.  The water should not touch the upper pot.

Let the beeswax pellets melt down for a few minutes.  Be sure to keep stirring at every 10-sec interval so that the mixture does not burn.

Once the pellets have completely melted and you have a thick liquid, remove the pot from the heat.  Give it some time to cool before moving to the next step.

Step 2: Add the Coconut Oil and Shea Butter

Once the beeswax liquid has cooled off, you can add coconut oil and shea butter.  Stir until everything is melted and well combined.

If the shea butter and coconut oil are solid, you first need to melt them down before adding them to the beeswax liquid.

Otherwise, you will end up will a mixture packed with huge lumps of uneven oils that will be hard to apply.

Just like the beeswax pellets melting both shea butter and coconut oil is pretty straightforward.

You can either you a  double boiler or place the ingredients in a bowl and place the bowl over a pot with simmering water.

Once everything is melted down, mix them together.  To get a more even solution, it is best to use a hand mixer for this.  Then let it settle for a few hours before moving to the next step.

Step 3: Add the Flavor and Sweetener

If you want your lip balm to have a flavor, now is the time to add it.  This is where you can get creative and add your favorite scents.

You’ll want to add between 5 drops and 10 drops of each flavor.  Be sure to mix the lip balm well after adding the flavors to distribute them evenly.

You can also add a sweetener to your lip balm at this point.  If you’re using a liquid sweetener, such as honey or agave, add it now.

If you’re using a powdered sweetener, like sugar or stevia, wait until the end.  Again, be sure to mix it in well.

Step 4: Mix Everything Together

Using a Hand or Electric mixer (depending on what you have), mix everything together for about 3 minutes.

If you dont have a mixer, you can use a spatula or, better yet, use a blender.  Be sure to mix everything to your desired feel.

Once everything is nicely mixed, you will want to let it cool off and solidify first before pouring it into your lip balm containers.

Step 5 Pour the Lip Balm Into Containers

Once your lip balm has settled and flavored to your liking, it’s time to pour it into containers.

You can use pots, tubes, or tins.  If you’re using jars or tubes, be sure to use a funnel to avoid spills.

Make sure to evenly distribute the lip balm among the containers.  Allow the lip balm to cool and harden before using.

There you have it, a lovely homemade lip balm using beeswax!
