How To Make Mango Butter Soap: Directions

1: Prepare Your Work Ingredients & Molds

Start by gathering all of your ingredients. You will need to have them ready before starting the process and be prepared to work quickly once you begin (soap making can get kind of hectic!).

Once you’ve gathered all of your items, it’s time to prepare the molds for pouring… If using silicone molds, simply spray the insides down with a good nonstick cooking spray.

If you are using traditional molds, line the inside of each mold with parchment paper or wax paper to prevent sticking.

You can use regular grocery store wax paper for this – it’s much cheaper than the soapmaking supply store stuff. Just cut some rectangles to size and line each mold with a strip.

Once you’ve prepared your molds, it’s time to get started!

2: Prepare Your Lye Mixture

Next, you will need to prepare your lye mixture for mixing into the soap. You will need to mix the lye with distilled water. Be very careful when handling lye because it can cause severe burns if it gets on your skin!

Carefully pour the lye crystals into the water and stir until they are dissolved. Make sure not to breathe in the fumes from this process as they can cause respiratory irritation.

Now your lye solution is ready to use! You can always get your lye on Amazon: The Boyer Corporation Red Crown Lye.

3: Add The Oils to the Lye Solution

Carefully melt your Oils(Coconut Oil, Sunflower, or Sweet Almond Oil) and add them to the lye mixture. Be sure to stir gently stir until combined. Again be careful when handling lye!

Be sure to watch out for lye crystals that may still be floating around in the liquid! Stir continuously with a whisk while pouring, making sure everything is well combined

You will need to stir this mixture for about 10 minutes until it becomes translucent and very thick !! Do not stop stirring, or you could end up with some soap on the bottom of your molds that is not fully mixed!

4: Add The Mango Butter & Essential Oils (optional)

Once your soap mixture has reached a snowball consistency, add the mango butter and mix in completely. Then add you’re essential oils (if using).

5: Pour The Mango Butter Soap Into Your Mold

Carefully pour the soap mixture into each mold cavity until it reaches about halfway full. Cover each mold with a piece of cardboard and wrap it in a towel. Leave these soaps undisturbed for 48 hours to allow them to saponify.

After the soaps have sat for the recommended amount of time, uncover and unmold them from your molds. If using silicone molds, simply flex the sides of the molds, and your soap will pop out!

If you used traditional molds, gently push from the backside of each mold to release the soaps.

Cut your newly formed bars using a sharp knife and place them on a drying rack. Place this in a well-ventilated area and allow the bars to cure for about four weeks to reach optimal hardness.

Amazon is packed with lots of silicone molds; you can check them out.

Frequently Asked Questions about Mango Butter Soap

Can Mango Butter Be Used In Soap?

Mango butter and its derivatives (such as mango soap) can be used in skincare products such as soaps and lotions because of its excellent moisturizing properties. The use of mango butter for skincare is gaining popularity due to the rich source of natural fatty acids for healthy skin, including capric acid, caprylic acid and lauric acid.

Is Mango Butter Lighter Than Shea Butter?

Mango butter is lighter than shea butter because mango butter has a higher melting point (76 degrees F) than many other kinds of butter, which will melt on skin contact. Shea butter melts at skin temperature (95 degrees F), which is why straight shea butter lotions are of better consistency for warmer seasons.

How should I store mango butter soap?

Mango butter soaps and other body care products made using mango butter should be kept in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Store them separately as this will help prevent cross-contamination of scents and colors if the soap bars have these added ingredients.

Mango butter soap is a wonderful product used for skincare or a shampoo bar. It contains natural essential oils and mango butter, which are great for moisturizing the skin and hair.
